My take on Aggressive sales
If there is only one lifeline remains in any company to sustain, that is sales always. It is similar to the water supply to your home. If you observe someone who is good at sales, you can find their way of working is aggressive. Well, if you are not aggressive in sales, you die. It is a war field and you die if you don’t fight.
I have been handling marketing both in foreign and domestic market for two decades. Among all the sales people I have seen, the best ones are ready to close the deals. I myself have been an extremist when it comes to closing the deals and I teach the same in my seminars, webinars or corporate training. You can’t change the truth, isn’t it?
I once attended a sales webinar of Mark Cuban, the great American businessman. He used the word ‘ABC’ of sales and it simply means ‘Always Be Closing’. You get to close the deal, not convincing the customer or giving sales speech in this real world. None bothers if you have tried enough or not, at the end of the day, close the damn deal and make money for the company. Here are a few tips I generally teach my own managers and in my mentorship programme. They are as below
1. Don’t sell the products. A person can be a lousy and lazy marketer if that person sells products directly. Human beings are emotional in nature, and they buy a better version of themselves. So, instead you sell the idea or story where the customer senses an urgency of owning the product or service.
2. Put value on your customers always. Your customer has the money and you need to show the intrinsic value you put in-front of your customer. Don’t beg your customer at all. People don’t need nagging from sales guys. I myself have seen sales guys who just want to sell their product by begging. Well, this never works for the long term, I am afraid from my experience.
3. Be knowledgeable first. Even after attending massive training sessions, especially in domestic markets, the sales people don’t really have full knowledge of their product or service. Your customer loses their interests if you don’t know properly about what you are selling in the first place. It is sometimes tiring to meet this kind of marketer.
4. Marketing is hard; so does educating yourself. The one single request I want to put forward is educate yourself. The ways of sales are pretty much learnable and find coaches or attend seminars which can teach you. You can’t sell otherwise.
5. Be an active listener. You will not know how the conversation may change if you listen closely. One of the worst habits of sales guys is that they want people to listen but themselves not.
Sales job is to close the deal, don’t make it easy for customers to say No or Delay or Postpone. Learn and work and then learn more and work more. You are reading this post written by that guy who himself helped companies make millions.Trust the force :)
